5/23/2017 - OKC, OK -- Last week the Oklahoma City Council approved the use of body-cams to be worn by Oklahoma City police officers. The measure will put approx. 320 body-worn cameras in use within the police department.
OCPD initiated the program last year with about 100 cameras. That program however was put on a temporary hold as the Fraternal Order of Police and police administration worked to resolve differences of opinion as to how the devices would be used.
The new cameras will be equipped with WiFi capabilities.
The department hopes to have up to 700 body cams in use in the near future.
