Oklahoma officer cleared in fatal shooting during traffic stop

4/20/2017 - Kiowa, OK -- An Oklahoma district attorney has ruled that a Kiowa police officer was justified in the fatal shooting of a man during a traffic stop.

On Jan. 30, Kiowa police officer Fred Hart pulled over 50-year-old Marvin Washington of Coweta for speeding.

While pat searching Washington, Hart discovered a small handgun in Washington's pocket. Washington struggled with Hart and reportedly tried to get to the gun.

In response, Hart shot Washington twice - killing him.

Pittsburg County District Attorney Chuck Sullivan ruled the shooting as justifiable self-defense.
