5/12/2017 - Norman, OK -- An inmate at the Lexington Correctional Center has been charged with first-degree manslaughter in the death of his cellmate.

According to court records, Rodney Harty, 40, is accused of hitting Erick Shane Kitchell, 44, with enough force to cause his death.

Harty was formally charged Wednesday in Cleveland County.

Kitchell was found unconscious in his cell, on Jan, 2, by correctional staff and transported to Norman Regional Hospital. Kitchell died in the hospital three days later.

Harty is currently serving time for drug trafficking, distribution of CDS near a park and possession of a firearm.

Kitchell has prior convictions for second-degree burglary, concealing stolen property, false declaration of ownership to a pawn shop and escape.
