Five Oklahoma prison guards seek medical treatment after brief altercation with inmates

5/16/2017 - Cushing, OK -- Five private prison staff members were reportedly taken to a local hospital for medical treatment today after physical altercations with inmates.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, the incident started after an officer at the Cimarron Correctional Facility pepper-sprayed an inmate for failure to comply with orders.

In retaliation, several other inmates assaulted the corrections officer.

Additional correctional officers responded to the disturbance and deployed more pepper spray.

Though the incident is said to have been brief, it was reported that five correctional officers were treated and released from a local hospital. No inmates were injured.

The medium-security facility, owned and operated by CoreCivic, holds more than 1,600 inmates.
